AIM Biotech founder Professor Roger Kamm is awarded the 2020 Shu Chien Achievement Award

January 6, 2020 -- AIM Biotech announced that its founder, Professor Roger Kamm, was awarded The Shu Chien Scientific Achievement Award. The award was granted by the Biomedical Engineering Society's Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering SIG in recognition of Prof Kamm's contributions to the field of cellular and molecular bioengineering, including groundbreaking scientific advances, the development of programs, and the mentoring and training of the next generation of scientists working in the field.

Dr. Kamm's studies over the past 35 years have addressed issues in the respiratory, ocular and cardiovascular systems, achieving high impact as evidenced by an h-index of 92 with 30,000 lifetime citations.

More recently, his attention has focused on the molecular mechanisms of mechanosensing, cell population dynamics, and the development of new microfluidic platforms for the study of cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. His work has especially examined the context of angiogenesis and metastatic cancer. This has led to commercialization of related technology through a company he co-founded, AIM Biotech.

As Director of the EBICS NSF Science and Technology Center, Dr. Kamm has launched fundamental research and trained numerous students and postdocs in cellular bioengineering. Dr. Kamm is a fellow of AIMBE, ASME, BMES, AAAS and the IFMBE. He is the 2010 recipient of the ASME Lissner Medal, the 2015 recipient of the Huiskes Medal, the inaugural R.M. Nerem Award for Mentoring from ASME-BED, and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.

In service to the mechanobiology community, Dr. Kamm has served as Chair of the US National Committee on Biomechanics, the 2014 World Congress of Biomechanics, and the World Council of Biomechanics.
